No raving maniac. You presented it very sensibly. Really if you think about it. What we are doing with AUT is something very human and humane.

ps: i have recently countered the “belief in UT” angle with: do you “believe” in the effect alcohol has on you? if you drink alcohol and experience effects, do you need someone else to prove those effects to you? if you are “allowed” to talk about your experiences while drinking alcohol, and the effects you describe are accepted as true by your listeners — then why should it not be the same with different liquids? how about coffee?
